Notes from Principal Jones

Dear Prescott South Families,

PSES is proud to have met all four annual measurable objectives for the 2013-2014 academic year.  We are focused on specific sub groups for growth to continue our school-wide improvement.  Students with learning disabilities, English Language Learners, and Economically Disadvantaged students are an area of focus; however, every student and employee at PSES plays a vital role in our school's success.

Please attend the 3rd and 4th grade data and testing meeting in the gym beginning at 5:15 P.M.

During the last nine weeks of the academic year, all 1st-4th grade students are given summative tests to assess growth and achievement for the past year.  We do not feel this is the only way to measure student progress; we do that daily.  However, the test scores are used to make instructional decisions from year to year.  Please encourage your child to take the process seriously and to try their best.  Breakfast and a good night's sleep can help a student feel better prepared.   We want all students to experience success and achieve proficient or advanced on standardized tests.  Thank you for your support during this highlight of the academic year.

Your feedback is valued at Prescott Elementary.  My contact information is provided to better serve your family.

Sincerely,

Catherine Jones

Kattie Nash has been voted as both the Prescott South Elementary School Teacher of the Year AND the Putnam County Schools Elementary Teacher of the Year! **Update 2/28/14** Ms. Nash has also been named the Upper Cumberland Regional Teacher of the Year!

Ms. Nash has been teaching for six years, and has taught first grade at PSES for three years.   She enjoys teaching children through Project Based Learning and hands-on experiences.  She not only works hard in the classroom with her first graders, but also works to train other teachers in professional development sessions and in conferences around the state.  She has a Masters degree in Educational Technology, and is a pioneer in using technology with young children in the classroom.

Ms. Nash serves on several committees at PSES, and is the coordinator of CSI Family STEM Night and Career Day.  Ms. Nash is actively involved in Girl Scouts, her local church, and many other community events.  We are excited she is being recognized for her talents!  We are so blessed to have Putnam County’s best and brightest teachers here at PSES!
